Establishing advanced control
system for accurate navigation
and c ommunic ations sys t em Navigational aids transmit necessary data including the runway-approach location
of aircraft and landing angle for safe takeoffs and landings. IIAC drew up a
plan to advance the navigational safety system including improving its capacity
for aircraft, utilizing nearby air space, and enhancing the control system before
starting Phase 4 to prepare the age of 100 million passengers at Incheon Airport.
The new system was titled “Smart +plus NAVAIDS!” to focus on reducing
the workload of controllers and strengthening safety. It included utilizing
smart control facilities including iCWP and electronic strips, strengthening
the monitoring system, and reducing wave shadow areas. It also decreased the
frequency protection area for instrument landing system and established plans
to improve the air space and new flight procedures to improve the efficiency of
airport operations. IIAC confirmed 7 implementation projects and divided them
into 2 packages.
Establishing smart control platform with domestic technology:
smart apron control platform
With the construction of Runway 4, the scope of airport control was widely
expanded, increasing the complexity of the control system and user environment.
Thus, there was an increasing need for future control systems with new
technology, and smart controls and remote towers with AI, AR, and video
recognition were introduced. IIAC decided to build an advanced control platform
with domestic technology and enter the international market in the future. To this
end, it developed new AI and AR technology with domestic companies.
