For the Terminal 2 connection railway construction, a shield Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) method was
employed to build a tunnel that passes underground beneath the runway, avoiding a detour around it. This

project became the world's second successful case of tunnel construction carried out under an operational
airport. With the Phase 3 landside construction project, Incheon Airport completed the integrated
transportation system encompassing 2 passenger terminals.
