Aprons and apron control tower
To meet rising aviation demand, the Phase 2 development
expanded apron facilities. Additional passenger, cargo, and
de-icing aprons were built. Notably, the concourse apron
was designed to accommodate the ultra-large Airbus A380,
enhancing Incheon Airport’s position as a major hub airport
in Northeast Asia. With the completion of Concourse in 2008,
the airport secured apron facilities capable of accommodating
64 aircraft. Including the Phase 1 facilities, a total of 108
aircraft stands were made available. New cargo aprons
were constructed north of the new cargo terminal and in the
expanded eastern section of the Phase 1 cargo terminal. In
addition to the aprons, various infrastructure projects were
carried out, such as the construction of a shuttle train for
passenger transportation systems connecting Terminal 1 and
Concourse, IAT/BHS tunnels to accommodate a variety of
utilities, as well as drainage systems. On the landside, civil
engineering projects included the construction of north-south
roads and the improvement of the terminal's circular road
system.
To handle the increased aircraft traffic resulting from the
Phase 2 construction project, a new apron control tower was
built to complement the main control tower. The apron control
