The Phase 2 construction area of Incheon Airport was located adjacent to the west of the Phase 1
facility. Its original ground was marine soft ground. Ground improvement was necessary to ensure
adequate support for aircraft takeoffs and landings. To achieve this goal, sand-mat, Plastic Board
Drains (PBD), and pre-loading methods were used.
