Preparing environmentally-
friendly Phase 2 site
The Phase 2 construction project officially began in November 2002, with the commencement of site
preparation work. Initially, the project focused on removing nearby obstructing hills, such as Oseongsan
and Eulwangsan, which posed a risk to safe aircraft operations. The soil and rock generated during the
process were used for Phase 2 site preparation.
Throughout the Phase 2 construction project, efforts were made to address civil complaints and prioritize
environmental considerations during site preparation. For example, careful ecological restoration work was
carried out to accelerate the recovery of cut areas after hill excavation. Additionally, to minimize noise,
vibration, and dust during blasting, a new technique known as small-scale, double blasting was introduced.
A conveyor belt system was also implemented to prevent accidents and dust caused by the large-scale
movement of soil, fundamentally resolving many civil complaints.
