          Introducing another

          transformation

          renewal of Terminal 1

Following the expansion of Terminal 2 and the Phase 4 construction project, the
renewal of Terminal 1 is also planned. With 23 years since its completion in 2001,
Terminal 1 will undergo remodeling to update its aging facilities and enhance the

airport’s operational environment. In April 2024, IIAC selected the winning design
for the Terminal 1 Comprehensive Improvement Project. The ceiling of the departure
check-in hall will feature overlapping soft curves, evoking a traditional Korean
aesthetic reminiscent of ink-wash clouds, and a dedicated smart zone will be created

to establish an optimal flow from check-in to departure and boarding. Additionally, the
previously divided departure and arrival halls will be integrated to reduce passenger
congestion and improve operational efficiency. Other updates will include the
installation of a large media facade on the ceiling of the security screening area. Based

on the winning design, IIAC plans to complete both the basic and detailed designs
by 2027, then proceed with extensive facility upgrades, targeting final completion by
          2033.
