Connecting new routes
expanding major roads within the airport
buildings; preparing site for MRO Complex With the opening of Terminal 2, aviation demand was expected to increase
significantly. Additionally, the construction of a resort complex near the airport
began to materialize, necessitating proactive improvements to traffic flow both
inside and around the airport. As part of the Phase 4 construction project, several
new roads were also built. These included expanding access roads to Terminal
2, constructing the shortened T1-T2 connecting road and Terminal 1 southern
connecting road, and building roads for the MRO Complex.
Widening roads: expanding Terminal 2 access road
The T2 access road was initially built in phases to ensure economic feasibility
during the Phase 3 construction project. With the rapid increase in airport traffic
following Terminal 2's opening, the expansion of the road became a natural step.
In the Phase 4 construction project, the Terminal 2 access road, which spans 3.52
km, was expanded from 6 lanes to 8 lanes. During the design phase, the width of
the expanded cross-section was minimized as a cost-saving strategy. Specifically,
the green area in the median strip was reduced to allow simultaneous expansion
of both the inner and outer sections of the road. Although this reduction in the
median strip could have decreased the green space, close collaboration between
the civil engineering and landscaping teams ensured both cost savings and
aesthetic appeal. The expansion of the T2 access road was a pre-emptive measure
to accommodate future increases in airport traffic and has also greatly enhanced
the convenience of transportation for visitors to nearby areas.
