          Securing rapid and

          accurate baggage handling

          expanding Terminal 2 BHS

The Baggage Handling System (BHS) is a key airport facility
that automatically sorts checked baggage and transports it

to respective flights. The Phase 4 BHS construction project
focused on expanding the Phase 3 BHS while incorporating
new technologies to upgrade the overall system. The project
added 43 km to the existing 53 km of Phase 3, extending the

total length to 96 km. Additionally, Early Baggage Storage
(EBS) was expanded by 100% from 3,072 units in Phase 3.
IIAC applied BIM technology from the BHS design stage
to resolve interface issues and reduce trial and error. Smart

equipment and new technologies were introduced in Phase
4 BHS. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology
improved the baggage tag read rate, and video coding
technology was also applied, allowing operators to input

baggage information remotely from the control room.
Furthermore, the Individual Carrier System (ICS) from Phase
3 was extended to the Phase 4 area, reducing the transfer time
for departing and transit baggage by approximately 4 minutes.

Another improvement was the switch from box-type trays
to dish-type trays, allowing smoother transport of various
          baggage shapes without obstructions.
