Wearing beauty: interior and media art
During the expansion work, IIAC focused on design elements while expanding
Terminal 2’s existing space. The interior design of the Terminal 2 expansion area
adopted sky motifs under the concept of “Floating in the Clouds.” With white as
the dominant color, the overall tone was brightened. The ceiling featured rhythmic,
repetitive patterns, and cultural and artistic content was placed throughout the
expansion area. In addition, IIAC paid special attention to passenger flows and
ensured they meet various media art and design elements in everyday life along
their paths.
One of the leading examples is 490 louvers and kinetic sculptures attached to the
ceiling of the Terminal 2 check-in hall. Louvers are designed to control the airflow
and light and are made of blades and flats of various materials arranged according
to their functions.
Kinetic sculptures use the movement of these louvers and create diverse patterns
through lighting effects, with each theme decided by AI-based data, such as
weather information.
In the departure hall, there is a flying object." It consists of 9 autonomous flying
objects, and its modular design allows for both design changes and a variety of
performance displays through the control system. Additionally, large electronic
displays installed in both the arrival and departure halls are used as canvases for
video content created in collaboration with domestic and international artists,
turning them into platforms. Real-time flight information (FIDS), converted
into images, is provided on the displays. Furthermore, to enhance social value
and public benefit, space design and improvements have been made to ensure
convenience for vulnerable passengers and airport workers.
