               baggage handling sys t em                                                             The expansion of Terminal 2 is the core part of Incheon
                                                                                                     Airport Phase 4 construction project. To become more
                                                                                                     competitive as a future hub airport in Northeast Asia, Incheon

                                                                                                     Airport needed to increase the passenger capacity of Terminal
                                                                                                     2. To this end, IIAC decided to increase the annual passenger
                                                                                                     capacity to 52 million during the Phase 4 construction
                                                                                                     projects. The most challenging aspect of Terminal 2 expansion

                                                                                                     was expanding the terminal while maintaining normal
                                                                                                     operations of Terminal 2’s existing facilities. Thus, from the
                                                                                                     design competition stage, the company required candidates
                                                                                                     to reflect the principle of “non-stop operations” in the design

                                                                                                     proposal and construction plan. Under this principle, the
                                                                                                     winner was selected in August and the basic design for
                                                                                                     Terminal 2 began. This marked the start of the sketching work
                                                                                                     for the expansion of Terminal 2.

                                                                                                     From the early design phase, the opinions of tenants and
                                                                                                     operational departments were actively gathered, and 123
                                                                                                     improvements were reflected into the design. Notably, the
                                                                                                     Phase 4 construction project adopted building information

                                                                                                     modeling (BIM) more extensively, which greatly contributed
                                                                                                     to the precise and efficient progress of each process during the
                                                                                                     Terminal 2 expansion design.
