BHS and shuttle train that
facilitate movement of cargo
and passengers
Construction of the BHS in Phase 3 involved linking and
expanding the BHS of Terminal 1 and the concourse with
the BHS of Terminal 2. Based on principles of simplicity,
reliability, and easy maintenance, Incheon Airport designed
the Phase 3 BHS and began installation in May 2015. The new
BHS had multi-layers with advanced facilities and usability
including lighter trays, Early Bag Storage (EBS), Empty Tray
Storage (ETS), and a Tab Return System (TRS). For smooth
operation, it integrated the BHS systems and built the BHS
Operation Center (BOC).
The shuttle train was introduced during Phase 2 and
expanded in Phase 3. 2 shuttle train lines were installed in the
underground tunnel between Terminal 2 and the Concourse,
with 2-car trains operating on the route. The shuttle train
from Phase 2, initially composed of 3 cars, was upgraded to
4 cars by adding an additional car. To support operations, the
maintenance depot was expanded, including light maintenance
tracks and departure inspection tracks, and the platform
