Preparations for airport opening and

Incheon Airport opening

Preparations for the airport opening were carried out in 3 stages: organizing the opening preparation team, conducting system
integration tests and trial operations, and relocating airport operations. First, IIAC formed a dedicated opening preparation

team and established a technical support group composed of experienced experts. From July to December 2000, system
integration tests were conducted using 46 scenarios covering various aspects such as flight planning, management, safety, and
security. In October 2000, full-scale trial operations began, using simulated passengers and baggage. A total of 112 scenarios
were designed to match Incheon Airport’s characteristics, and these were used as the basis for trial operations over a 3-month

period until December. On November 20, 2000, the Incheon Airport Expressway also opened. The most crucial task was to
accurately transfer the systems and operations of Gimpo Airport's international flights to Incheon Airport. After successfully
completing all preparations, Incheon Airport held a historic opening ceremony on March 22, 2001, and officially began
operations as a Northeast Asian hub airport on March 29.
