Combining technology and art: media art
The Phase 4 project to expand Terminal 2 included the installation of media art
considering artistic trends combining technology and art. Large-scale electronic
displays were installed at the arrival/departure area of Terminal 2 under the theme

of “Journey of anticipation and afterglow.” They are largest airport displays of
their kind in the world, measuring 60m × 6m in the arrival hall and 78m × 10m in
the departure hall. A world-renowned media art director was hired for production
while the video focused on traditional images. It also displays flight information,

as well as departure and arrival status in characters and graphs, the first attempt
of its kind in the world. Along with media art, a kinetic structure and a “flying
object” were installed. They are designed as modules, so there can be variations
in the shape of spheres and performances. In this respect, it is expected to open

a new chapter in media art. The content is managed by the content management
system of the integrated media center, covering media at Terminal 1, Terminal 2,
FIDS, and smart signage.
